Baked Apple Donuts

Summary: In the morning, nothing is quite so good as muffins for breakfast. Here is a great muffin recipe that will make your breakfast a hit!

Nothing says, "Good morning!" like fresh donuts for breakfast. I remember several Sunday morning when I woke up to find that Mom had made a fresh batch of baked apple donuts. While the name may be deceptive, baked apple donuts are actually muffins (think donut hole!). Baked apple donuts were always a treat and I never tire of them. If you're looking for a recipe to spice up your kitchen, to add some flair and variety to your breakfasts, then baked apple donuts may be the way for you to go.

The ingredients you'll need are the following:

  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of grated apple
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter
  • Another 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Use a wire whisk to mix the ingredients together and make sure that dry ingredients mix well together. You can then add the shortening, the egg, and the milk. Use a hand mixer to mix in the wet ingredients. Mix until all of the ingredients are well combined. Once all the ingredients are sufficiently combined, add the grated apple. Use the mixer to combine the apple in with the rest of the muffin batter. Spoon the batter into a muffin pan. (A muffin pan with smaller muffin cups works best.)

Bake the muffins at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Shake out the muffins from the pan and allow them to cool for a few minutes. While the muffins cool, mix together sugar and the cinnamon. Once the muffins are cool, take each one and dip it into the melted butter; then dip the muffin into the cinnamon sugar. Do this for each of the muffins and you'll be set! Put them out on a plate and call your family into the kitchen for breakfast. Pour some glasses of milk and enjoy your baked apple donuts!
