Cheese Boxes

Summary: You may have heard of a bread box, but have you ever heard of a cheese box? Believe it or not, these quaint cheese storage devices are making a comeback. Here is some basic information that can help you understand a little more about these wonderful items, and what they can be used for.

Surprisingly when asked, most people will say that they haven't heard of cheese boxes. These useful items come in all shapes and sizes and are used for everything from storage to gifts. Quite often, though, people don't really think about these useful and interesting items until they see them on the racks at a holiday display. If you have ever been curious about what these items are and how you can use them around your home, then take a look here.

  • Use for storage. Similar in nature to bread boxes, a cheese box will run roughly 11 inches by 8 3/4 inches by 7 inches. Since the vast majority of hard cheeses are best served at room temperature, a cheese box is designed to allow hard cheeses to be stored at room temperature while keeping any pests and allergens off. Simply put, these storage boxes can help you achieve the maximum taste and flavor from each type of cheese that you store in there. Do not use these storage devices to store soft or wet cheeses, considering that those types of cheeses do need to be refrigerated to keep from spoiling.
  • Use as gifts. In today's world, cheese boxes are typically used as a gift around the holiday season. These kinds of cheese boxes come pre-packaged and stocked with cheeses. All you need to do is select the ones that will serve your needs. However, there are things that you can do to customize your own gift boxes. When making your own cheese boxes, consider the type of material that you will be using to package it. The box itself needs to be strong, yet not too heavy (cardboard makes an excellent choice). Next, consider the interior packaging material. A popular choice for this is the "grass" used in Easter baskets. After creating the box itself, you now need to choose the types of cheese that you place inside. Hard or semi-hard cheeses are typically the best choices since they will last longer without refrigeration. Finally, all that you have left is decide how you will decorate the box.
  • Alternative uses. After receiving a cheese box, or once you are done using it for storing cheese, there are other things that you can use it for. Cheese boxes make great craft storage locations for children and adults who would like to organize their materials. In addition to storage items, the cheese boxes can also be the basis of great craft projects themselves. Some examples are for making drums, banks, and Valentine card mail boxes.
