Fruit Baskets

Summary: Fruit baskets are a wonderful, and relatively inexpensive, way to show your appreciation for someone in your life. While everyone knows that you can go out and purchase one, why endure the added expense of having someone make one for you, when you can make your own? Here's how.

If you are looking for a way to show your appreciation for someone and you don't want to go with one of the boring old gifts or a card, then why not try a home made fruit basket? Making your own fruit baskets can provide you an excellent opportunity to show case your ingenuity and creativity. Best of all, while doing all of this, this will also provide that someone with a nutritious and delicious snack. Here are some great guidelines that can help you make your next fruit basket.

  • Basket types. When making a fruit basket, you are obviously going to need something to put all the fruit in. This is where the basket comes into play. Choose one that will be large enough for your purposes, but do not choose one that will be too large, after all you have to purchase the fruit that will be going into the basket. Make sure that you line the basket with something soft, such as Easter basket grass, or nice looking hand towel or something similar, in order to cushion the fruit.
  • Fruit types. Before making a blanket decision on the types of fruit that you will put into your fruit basket, take time to consider a few things. Consider what type of fruit the intended recipient likes, as well as what is currently in season. Choose your fruit in such a way that the taste, and the colors of each will compliment each other.
  • Arrangement. While arranging the fruit, make sure that you put the heavier types of fruit on the bottom, while putting the lighter and more delicate types of fruit on top. An example of this would be to place oranges and apples near the bottom, while placing things like plums, grapes and bananas near the top. You will also want to arrange the fruit in a manner where the colors of the fruit can be aesthetically pleasing. See if you can create a design in the color arrangement.
  • Seasonal. There are a couple of instances where the seasons will play a huge role in making your fruit baskets. For example, unless you are willing to pay a premium for your fruit then you will want to only use fruit that are in season. Another instance where seasons will play a role is when you decorate your basket (it's always a good idea to decorate your basket according to the season).
