When you wake up in the morning and pour your coffee do you ever wonder what that wonderful drink is made of, or are you too tired to care? Arabica Coffee makes up the majority of the coffee beans in the world. Odds are that cup of coffee you drink every morning is made with, none other than, Arabica coffee. Who would have guessed?
Coffee Arabica is a species of coffee indigenous to Ethiopia and Yemen. It is believed to be the first species of coffee to be cultivated, being grown in southwest Arabia for well over 1,000 years. It is considered to produce better coffee than the other major commercially grown coffee species. Arabica coffee contains less caffeine than most commercially grown coffee which makes it preferable to many coffee drinkers.
As with most plants a lot of different things help to determine the quality of its fruit, (aka the coffee beans). These things include what type of soil they are being grown in, the climate and elevation of the place they are bringing grown and how they get processed. Due to the amount of effort farmers put into growing this coffee bean, it's easy to see why Arabic coffee is one of the best in the world. For that reason, most people are willing to pay the price for it. Arabica coffee is more expensive than most coffees and for good reason. While most coffee beans stay on the tree even after ripened, Arabica coffee beans fall to the ground and for this reason they must be carefully monitored and picked at precisely the right time so as not to waste any. The more beans that fall to the ground and are spoiled, the higher production cost will be. Arabica coffee is grown best in the tropics and for that reason it is often grown in South America where the temperature, altitude and humidity is just perfect for it.
Next time you're at the grocery store, picking out what coffee you want to wake yourself up with, look at the can and see if it says Arabica. If it does, you'll know you're in good hands when those tough mornings come around.
